Psychodynamic Therapy in Ottawa

Psychodynamic therapy is insight-based psychotherapy informed by psychoanalytic thinking. The approach is the same whether you come once a week or three times a week: we pay attention to what emerges in the conversation. Not just the content, but the feelings that arise as you speak, the associations that come to mind, and the patterns that appear across different areas of your life.

How It Works

The frequency depends on what you need and what works for your life. Some people are dealing with deep-seated, long-standing difficulties and benefit from meeting more often—two or three times a week—because the continuity allows real work to happen in something close to real time. That's psychoanalysis, and I've written about it separately.

Others need help with something more specific: a bereavement, a crisis, a difficult transition. Once a week is fine for that. And some highly self-aware people do deep and productive work at once a week over a longer period. There's no formula. We figure out together what makes sense.

What Psychodynamic Therapy Can Help With

Anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, creative blocks, grief, trauma, or the persistent sense that something isn't right and you don't know what. The common thread is that you want to understand what's actually going on, not just manage your symptoms, but get to the root of the problem.

Psychodynamic Therapy in Ottawa: In-Person and Virtual
